Area Supplied

Dee Valley Water PLC supplies water to approximately 258,000 customers in Chester and North East Wales and North West England. (See map shown below).

Supply area

We supply 23 million tonnes of water per year over an area of 831 square kilometres.

All the water that Dee Valley Water purifies and supplies to its customers comes from rainfall, which is stored through the wet period and these reserves are called up during the dry periods. Llyn Celyn, Brenig and Bala Lake hold supplies which feed the River Dee from where we draw 90% of our annual requirements.

Together with other abstractors – United Utilities, Welsh Water and the Environment Agency - we manage the important resource of the River Dee. The River Dee supplies more water for public supply than the whole of the English Lake District.

Dee Valley Water also obtains water from our eight impounding reservoirs, which are fed from collecting grounds on the local hills and around Llandegla.

Once the water has been treated to make it fit to drink at one of our six treatment works, it passes through some 1,940 kilometres of water pipes to our customers’ homes, offices and factories. This is more mains than the total length of main roads in Cheshire.

Water consumption has actually doubled in the past 20 years.
